RJFC Weekend Round-Up 🎃

4 min read

It was a spooktacular Halloween weekend of football for our junior sides, with plenty of goals, great performances and, most importantly, lots of positive development across the age groups.

Under 8s 🎃

Saturday saw 16 of our U8s take part in a Halloween-themed football scavenger hunt, with a series of spooky activities combining football skills and plenty of Halloween fun.

The activities were followed by 45 minutes of small-sided matches, with teams playing 3v3, 2v2 and even 3v4.

The main focus was on maximising contact time on the ball and encouraging players to make their own decisions: when to pass, when to keep possession and when to take on an opponent by dribbling.

There was some fantastic football on show throughout and, importantly, another valuable opportunity for the players to experience match situations, build confidence and put their developing skills into practice.

Next weekend, the U8s travel to Tunbridge Wells Youth. 💚

Under 9s 🎃

The U9s enjoyed a fantastic morning away at Goudhurst, with both the Gladiators and Knights showing plenty of improvement.

The Gladiators produced two excellent performances, winning both fixtures. Their passing, movement and positioning were particularly impressive, with the team putting into practice many of the things worked on in training. There were goals aplenty, with several players finding the net, including some first goals after recent goal droughts.

The Knights also showed plenty of positives. After a hard-fought draw in their opening game, they faced a tougher second fixture. Despite the result, the team continued to work hard for each other, showing good passing football and real determination.

Players of the Week: Bodhi was recognised for an excellent all-round performance for the Gladiators, while Evie and Bertie shared the award for the Knights after two of their best performances in a Rotherfield shirt.

Under 10s🎃

The U10s took advantage of a free weekend of league action to arrange a friendly against Heathfield & Horam.

The game provided a great opportunity to give some players additional confidence and valuable game time, particularly those who have found recent fixtures against stronger opposition challenging.

It proved to be a really enjoyable morning, with everyone getting involved and the team producing a positive performance.

Players of the Week: Nikolai was recognised for his excellent defending and concentration throughout, while Arthur earned special recognition for scoring his first goal for the club. His progress since the start of last season has been fantastic, and playing the full match and getting his reward was a particularly proud moment.

Under 11s 🎃

With no league fixture scheduled, the U11s also arranged a friendly against Goudhurst, using the opportunity to experience a 9v9 format in preparation for next season.

The boys put in a tremendous shift, showing plenty of energy, commitment and some excellent passing football. It was a great opportunity to experience the larger format and demonstrate the football they are capable of playing.

Players of the Week: Ethan received the parents' award, while William was the coaches' choice.

Under 13s 🎃

The U13s produced a really strong performance at home against Tunbridge Wells Foresters.

Facing a well-coached side, Rotherfield were put under some early pressure but soon found their rhythm, scoring three quick goals to take control of the game before half-time.

The team continued to impress, combining some excellent football with outstanding communication and togetherness. Coaches were particularly pleased with the way players encouraged one another, celebrated good tackles and supported each other's efforts throughout.

It was a performance that demonstrated not just footballing ability but also the team spirit and positive attitude that the coaches are keen to develop.

Player of the Week: Josh was rewarded for a dominant midfield display, contributing three assists and hitting the post.

Under 14s 🎃

The U14s delivered a mature and professional performance in their late home kick-off against Biggin Hill.

Two well-worked first-half goals gave Rotherfield a deserved advantage, and the half-time message was simple: remain calm, dominate possession and continue playing together as a team.

The players followed those instructions brilliantly, maintaining control for much of the second half. After Biggin Hill pulled a goal back, Rotherfield responded in emphatic fashion, producing four more goals in a devastating spell.

The pick of the bunch was a superb team move involving some excellent passing, finished off beautifully to cap a fantastic afternoon.

With goals shared between six different scorers, it was a real team performance from start to finish.

Players of the Match: A collective team award, with the coaches unable to single out one individual after such an impressive all-round performance.

A special thank you also goes to Michael for taking charge of the match and managing the game superbly.

Under 16s 🎃

It was a mixed weekend for our two U16 sides.

The Renegades enjoyed an excellent away performance at Tunbridge Wells, producing a dominant display and keeping a clean sheet.

The Razorbacks, meanwhile, showed some great football against Chipstead. Unfortunately, despite creating plenty of opportunities and playing some excellent stuff, they were pegged back with the last kick of the game.

The coaches will take plenty of positives from the performance, although there will undoubtedly be some frustration at the chances that got away.

Both sides continue to work hard and develop as the season progresses.

From spooky football challenges to some frighteningly good performances, it was another fantastic weekend across the club.

A big well done to all our players, coaches, volunteers and parents for another weekend of grassroots football.

We hope you all had a spooktacular Halloween from everyone at Rotherfield Junior FC! 🎃💚
