CLUB HISTORY

Rotherfield Football Club was founded in 1893, however there is speculation that the Club had been operating prior to this date but no official records exist. There is very little known about the Club's early years other than that they competed in the Crowborough & District League and played at Rotherfield Recreation Ground and Milk Lodge Farm, which is just outside the village heading towards Crowborough.

The earliest known record of the Club is a photo taken in 1912 which featured a number of the Green Boys who served in the First World War.

In later years Rotherfield FC competed in the Tonbridge & District League for 75 seasons winning a number of trophies. Rotherfield FC also had teams that competed in the West Kent Sunday League which also had a degree of success.

In the early 90's Rotherfield FC moved to the Mid-Sussex Football League with the first team starting in Division Four. Rotherfield continued to run a Sunday team which then competed in the Lewes and District League, having some success as runners-up in numerous divisions and cups.

During the 90s Rotherfield FC gained promotion into Division Three and also winning the Edgar German Cup and being finalists of the Stubbins Cup.

The Noughties was arguably the Club's most successful period in recent times, under the stewardship of Pete Ford. The First Team gained a number of promotions into the Championship and reached the final of the MSFL Junior Cup twice, winning the cup on one occasion, and also won the Mowatt Cup.

Our Reserves also saw a degree of success in this period with promotions in the Mid Sussex League taking them from Division Eight to Division Three.

In the 1999/2000 season, Rotherfield formed the new Junior Club. Pete Ford and former player Roddy Harman started their first sessions with a few cones, footballs and a dozen or so local youngsters and from these humble beginnings grew today's thriving Junior club.

This period also saw huge changes to the set up at the club with renovations being completed in the clubhouse and a huge project that was funded by the Football Foundation, Rotherfield Parish Council and the Club to install a drainage system to all the playing areas of the Recreation Ground.

In the last 10 years, Rotherfield FC have competed in the MSFL Premier Division for most of this period and reached the final of the prestigious MSFL Montgomery Cup. Rotherfield FC also reached their furthest ever round in the Sussex County FA Intermediate Cup being knock out by Littlehampton Town Reserves in round four.  Rotherfield FC have gained FA Step 7 status meaning they compete at the first rung of the FA non-league pyramid.
