MATCH REPORT: Balcombe vs Rotherfield

Rotherfield produced a strong away performance, securing a deserved 4–1 victory in a game that featured five goals, a penalty and two red cards.

Rotherfield took the lead in the 18th minute. A free kick from Calum Gallie was flicked on by Fin McLeod, allowing Tommy Overton to finish and put the visitors 1–0 ahead.

The hosts responded in the 25th minute when a long ball was headed over the advancing Rotherfield goalkeeper to bring the score level at 1–1.

Rotherfield regained the lead ten minutes into the second half. A foul on Spampanato inside the penalty area gave Rotherfield a spot kick, with John Sinclair making no mistake from the penalty spot to put Rotherfield 2–1 ahead in the 55th minute.

The game took another turn in the 65th minute when the Balcombe goalkeeper was shown a red card following a foul on Connor Morrow, leaving the hosts to finish the match with ten men.

Rotherfield made their numerical advantage count in the 74th minute. Dan Gray drove forward before playing the ball to Morrow, who returned it to Gray. Gray then calmly slotted the ball underneath the goalkeeper to make it 3–1.

In the 80th minute, Bailey Mintrim played Morrow through one-on-one with the goalkeeper, but the keeper made an important save to deny Rotherfield a fourth.

Rotherfield did find that fourth goal in the 88th minute. Fin McLeod saw his shot deflected by a defender, with the ball looping back towards goal and floating over the goalkeeper to make it 4–1.

There was further drama late on when Tommy Overton was shown a red card for deliberately stepping on an opponent. Rotherfield nevertheless held on to complete a convincing away victory.
