Rotherfield FC continued their pre-season preparations on Tuesday evening as they welcomed Kent County League Premier Division newcomers FC Revo to the Rotherfield Recreation Ground.
On a warm summer's evening and with the playing surface still feeling the effects of the recent dry weather, the Greens enjoyed the majority of possession throughout much of the contest. They moved the ball well and found themselves in several promising attacking positions but were unable to test the visitors' goalkeeper often enough.
It was FC Revo who broke the deadlock midway through the first half. There were strong appeals from the home side for a handball in the build-up, but the referee waved away the protests and allowed play to continue, with the visitors taking advantage to score.
The lead was doubled around the half-hour mark when FC Revo were awarded a free-kick just outside the penalty area. The effort was expertly lifted over the wall and nestled inside the far post, leaving the goalkeeper with little chance.
Rotherfield went into the interval trailing 2-0, with coach Alex Watts making nine changes at the break to continue giving valuable minutes across the squad. FC Revo also rotated heavily during the second half as both sides used the fixture to build fitness ahead of the new campaign.
The Greens continued to dominate possession after the restart and created a number of opportunities to reduce the deficit, but a combination of missed chances and resolute defending prevented them from finding a breakthrough.
FC Revo had limited opportunities in the second half but almost added a spectacular third when an ambitious long-range effort crashed back off the crossbar. Their final goal eventually arrived after former Rotherfield player Jason Hinkson delivered a long pass forward from left-back. The ball was worked wide to the right, where the attacker produced an excellent outside-of-the-boot finish that lifted the ball over the advancing Rotherfield goalkeeper.
Despite controlling large spells of possession and showing plenty of encouraging passages of play, Rotherfield were unable to find the net as the visitors claimed a 3-0 victory.
With another valuable pre-season test completed, attention now turns to Saturday's final warm-up fixture as the Greens welcome Southern Combination Division One side and local rivals Jarvis Brook to the Lime Kiln. Kick-off is at 2:00pm, with the squad looking to build further momentum ahead of the start of the 2026/27 season where they face Westfield Reserves in the opening game on 22nd August.
