LINDFIELD VS FIRSTS

With seven weeks without a game and then a late venue change, Rotherfield travelled to The Colwell Ground in Haywards Heath to face Lindfield.
It was clear the challenging surface was not going to aid a fluid passing contest and there were a number of occasions when players had the ball stuck under their feet or slipped. Despite this, both sides still tried to play to feet and Rotherfield in particular had success with combinations to get the ball forward.
It was the hosts the opened the scoring where Grant Reed manged to evade a number of defenders in the box and slot home past Sumner.
0-1 down at the break was not a massive issue as Rotherfield looked threating at times going forwards. Soon into the second half Jack Spampanato managed to beat the offside trap and was through one-on-one with the Keeper which he dispatched his final ball with aplomb.
However, a great delivery from Lindfield's Stuart Brown, with about twenty minutes remaining found the head of the Andrew Davies to make it 2-1.
Rotherfield had a number opportunities to make it 2-2 and the introduction of debutants Cameron Howard and Bailey Mintrim certainly provided a positive threat going forwards, but Lindfield stood firm and denied the Greens (in Yellow) a share of the spoils. Final Score 2-1.
